SUN SPOTS

(Age Spots, Liver Spots, Lentigines)

Sun spots are small flat pigmented discolorations on the skin. They are similar to freckles but do not usually change color when exposed to the sun. Sun spots may occur anywhere but usually appear on areas of the body that are subject to high skin exposure like the face, shoulders, neck, ears, and back of the hands. The proper medical name for them is Solar Lentigines

Lady with Sun Spots on her faceAlso known as age spots or liver spots, sun spots are caused by prolonged unprotected exposure of the skin to the sun. This prolonged exposure to the sun's harmful UVA and UVB rays causes color changes in the pigment of the skin resulting in benign dark brown to black pigmented lesions.

Laser therapy is an excellent way to treat these lesions. The latest dermatologic laser technology safely and effectively treats these unwanted skin discolorations. Laser energy is absorbed in the discoloration breaking it which is then absorbed by the body.
