Laser Hair Removal
Pre-treatment Instructions:
- Avoid deep tanning including tanning beds and tanning creams, 2 weeks before and 1 week after the treatment. If you must go in the sun, use a sunscreen SPF 25 or higher.
- It is not necessary to shave prior to coming in for a treatment, except for men with thick beards, bikini area and underarms. In most cases we will trim the hairs before the treatment.
- The treatment area must be absolutely clear of any lotions, creams, makeup, sun block, perfume or any other chemicals or skincare products. These can react with the laser hair removal treatment to cause allergic reactions or reduce the effectiveness of your treatment by blocking the transmission of light.
- It is recommended that you stop bleaching 2-3 days before your procedure.
- It is best that you refrain from tweezing or waxing immediately, although it is not necessary to stop tweezing prior to the first appointment. Shaving or clipping of the hair with a small scissors is fine.
Post-treatment Instructions:
- Immediately after treatment there may be redness and bumps at the treatment site that may last for several hours. It is also normal for the treated area to feel like sunburn for several hours.
- The redness may be present for several days after the treatment. You may use a cold compress to relieve any discomfort.
- You may use makeup after the treatment. Make sure that you use a moisturizer under your makeup. Moisturizers will help the dead hair exfoliate from the follicle, therefore use the moisturizer frequently on the treated area to ensure optimum healing. You may use any moisturizer that does not contain alpha-hydroxy.
- Avoid sun exposure to reduce the chance of dark or light spots. Use sunscreen SPF 25 or greater at all times throughout the course of treatment.
- To achieve best results, do not use any hair removal methods or products on the treated area during the course of treatment. You may shave or clip the hair but absolutely no tweezing, waxing or depilatories. Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin.
The treated area can be washed with a mild soap and water.
- Shedding of the hair may occur anywhere from 5-30 days after the treatment. This is not new hair growth, but dead hair pushing its way out of the follicle. You can help the hairs exfoliate by taking a hot shower and gently rubbing the area with a washcloth or loofa sponge.
- If the underarms are treated avoid the use of a deodorant for the first 24 hours to reduce the chance of skin irritation.
Multiple treatments at the recommended time interval will be needed to obtain the optimum result.
