What do dermal fillers actually do?
Dermal Fillers temporarily add volume to the moderate to deep tissue layers to restore a smoother appearance to the skin.
What are dermal fillers indicated for?
Dermal fillers are indicated for injection into the mid to deep dermis (below the outer layer of skin) for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, glabella and oral commissures. Dermal fillers may also be used to fill in soft tissue defects below the skin caused by surgery or trauma. Dermal fillers are also used in lip augmentation.
Are there different types of dermal fillers?
Yes. There are a variety of injectable filler formulations on the market that allow us to tailor treatment to your unique needs. The characteristics of each filler suit it for a particular application. We will discuss the various options with you and determine what is right for you. The cosmetics and medication section discuss the various fillers that we use and provides links to the manufactures web sites.
What is the difference between Dermal Fillers and BOTOX?
Wrinkles and creases in the skin are caused by a loss of volume beneath the surface of the skin. Dermal fillers are gels that replace that loss of volume. This technique restores the skin surface to its natural look and feel. BOTOX is a medication that is injected into skin to relax the muscle tone that results in a smoother appearance.
Are dermal filler injections painful?
Injections may cause some discomfort during and after the injection. The injections are done with a fine needle to minimize injection discomfort. In some cases the skin is numbed prior to treatment to further minimize discomfort.
How long does treatment usually take?
The injection process takes only about 15 minutes.
Does the correction last forever?
No. Correction is temporary; therefore, touch-up injections as well as repeat injections are usually needed to maintain optimal results. Some results may last up to a year.
What are the possible side effects of dermal fillers?
With any injection there is a risk of infection. The most common side effects include temporary injection site reactions such as redness, pain, tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. Most side effects are mild or moderate in nature.
